Acrylic refers to polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), which is also known as plexiglass and perspex. Compared with other transparent plastic sheets, clear acrylic sheet has crystal transparency comparable to glass, so it is also called organic glass. Moreover, it has excellent weather resistance and yellowing resistance, and is a plastic sheet suitable for outdoor use.

Compared with cast acrylic sheets, extruded acrylic sheets have a simpler and faster production process and are suitable for mass automated production. Through the extrusion process we can produce acrylic sheets as thin as 0.8mm, with a more effectively controlled thickness tolerance. The lower molecular weight makes it slightly weaker mechanically than cast sheets. However, such features facilitate thermobending and thermoforming. Especially when dealing with larger acrylic sheets, extruded sheets are ideal for vacuum forming.
